At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers devoted to the results of development Uzbekistan in 2011 and priorities for 2012 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan made a speech. In his presentation he focused the special attention to the development of modern computer and telecommunication systems and technologies.
As the positive development, that meets the modern requirements, the President noted the faster growth of telecommunications services and information, which last year grew by 41.6 per cent.
This was ensured, at the fist by increasing the number of subscribers of mobile services and Internet network. It was achieved due to reduce the tariffs for public on Internet access to 22 per cent. Today, in the republic the number of active users of Internet is about 8 million people.
There were continued the implementation of projects on development of telecommunication systems, including 73 kilometers of fiber-optic communication line Jizzakh-Bulungur has been led. The cover of population by digital TV was increased up to 38 per cent.
More than 9400 schools, or 96 percent of their total number, are connected to educational information network ZiyoNet.
The President noted that the big event of last year in the life of the country was the completion of construction and put into operation the Centre of Education, which has absorbed the Palace of Symposiums, as well as the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoiy – the information resource center equipped with advanced information and computer technologies, and providing greater access to public, especially to young people to the national and international information and library collections.
Islam Karimov stressed the need to expand and to attract additional resources for development and modernization of the telecommunications network, to provide construction in this year more than 172 kilometers fiber-optic line Urgut-Shahrisabz and Byisun-Denau, expanding the coverage of wireless communications by installing the new 89 base stations, step-by-step transition to digital television by installing a television transmitters in Ferghana, Navoi, Syrdarya and Surkhandarya regions.
In 2012 it is planned to direct the investment in the volume more than 176 million US dollars for implementation of investment projects on development and modernization of telecommunications networks.
